“With the wireless age comes security solutions”
Wireless technology is finally making progress and more consumers are catching on to the craze.
Wireless networks are popping up everywhere. The days when cables were strung all over the office
are coming to an end. No more mess, no need for cable runs. Wireless technology brings networking
to the office and home more quickly and easily. Now, not only is the office high tech, but this radio
piece of technology that simplifies the office is also creeping into our homes. People are catching on
to the radical ease of communication that can be done at the office and at home. They are so excited to
go to the local technology store and purchase the latest and coolest technological hip hop tool for their
homes and offices. They see no need for the I.T. guy if they can simply buy, plug and play. After all
isn’t that what technology is all about? Who needs the IT guy to buy, plug and play? Wireless is a cinch,
right? Well, not so fast, the average consumer must first get past their fear of choosing the right wireless
flavor that will suit their needs. How many flavors can there be? Well, for starters there is 802.11b, 802.11a
and 802.11g, and who knows what will be coming next? Staying on top of the advantages and disadvantages for each
kind of 802.11 can truly intimidate the average consumer. The cost and needs for each consumer will vary and it
must be determined which type of wireless technology the consumer will benefit from the most. Then there are the
security issues. Though out of the box these little technological marvels are usually simple and easy to turn up,
they are also simple and easy to crack and hack; “crack” and “hack”, two buzzwords that tend to bring fear into the
world where gizmos and gadgets are highly sought after. Everyone wants the cool technology, but because of the
fearful terms like crack, hack and pirate, some are frightened away. Need not to fear. These wireless devices now
come with great security features that highly detour the hackers and crackers from your personal and private information.
But unfortunately, these security features aren’t just "Plug and Play". In fact, out of the box they are turned off.
That’s right; the security piece of wireless technology requires accessing and configuring these wireless devices. How
many consumers are comfortable and confident with protocols such as IP, WEP, and NAT? Most consumers just want to surf
and work. They don’t want to understand the complicated aspects of networking. So what does the average consumer do?
Unfortunately, many are overwhelmed with such concerns and fall back on plug and play. They simply don’t know how easy
it is for someone to “hack and crack” their data. Simply turning on a computer within 100 feet of a wireless network with
the default wireless settings is all it takes. No hacking or cracking required. By default, anyone with a wireless card
near any wireless network that is setup with the default settings out of the box has access to that network. These out of
the box wireless networks are highly vulnerable to attacks. So what is the consumer to do?
The problem is complicated, but the solution is simple. Bring in the I.T. guy. The IT guy can save the consumer time and
money. Think of the trips to the store that could be avoided because of returns and exchanges due to buying the wrong type
of wireless equipment. Some wireless equipment works on 802.11a but not 802.11g networks. Also think of the countless hours
that the IT Guy could spare the consumer from having to talk to various vender’s technical support that treat the consumer
like a number, rarely speak good English, and/or speak IT jargon that could frustrate any linguist. And finally, even if
the average consumer somehow figures out everything that has been mentioned, there isn’t a way to validate the security of
their network without the I.T. guy. But what I.T. Guy?
At DEBCO Tech, we have certified wireless technicians that specialize in wireless technology. We have a questionnaire
for the customer to fill out that helps the technician determine which type of wireless technology will work best for
the customer. The customer doesn’t need to spend more than is necessary. We provide onsite installation, thus removing the
installation headaches. Also, after installation we provide a wireless security test, thus delivering proof of security and
a peace of mind knowing that the network is resistant to intrusive attacks. Finally, we don’t leave the customer high and dry.
We offer a FREE 30 day technical support service that is unlike any other. Our support extends beyond the phone. With the
customer’s permission, we provide a secure software client that the customer can install on their computer enabling remote control
by our technical support. This of course is not required, but does provide a more efficient method to solve the customer’s technical problems.
We at DEBCO Tech simply want to bring home the office and offer the right wireless solutions.
DEBCO Tech, doing I.T. and Doin’ I.T. right!
